Miles de migrantes haitianos han llegado a la frontera entre Estados Unidos y México buscando cruzar el Río Grande y encontrar refugio en Estados Unidos.
Es complicado cómo los migrantes haitianos, eventuales refugiados que huyen de una nación insular sacudida por la inestabilidad política y la depresión económica, convergieron al mismo tiempo en la frontera entre Estados Unidos y México en un lugar específico de Texas. También lo es la cuestión de qué les pasará a continuación.

En mayo, Mayorkas anunció un estatus de protección temporal de 18 meses para los haitianos que ya residen en EE.UU., que ahora se aplica a los haitianos en el país a partir del 29 de julio. Mayorkas había citado “preocupaciones de seguridad, malestar social, un aumento en los abusos de derechos humanos, la pobreza paralizante y la falta de recursos básicos, que se ven agravados por la pandemia de covid-19”. Y ese anuncio de primavera fue antes de que el presidente de Haití fuera asesinado y se produjera un terremoto durante el verano.
Muchos de los que llegan a la frontera de Estados Unidos ahora habían salido de Haití hace mucho tiempo y vivían o se quedaban en otros países de Centroamérica y Sudamérica, desde Guatemala hasta Chile.
