Under these agreements, a refugee (or in cases where the basic means of repression has been applied directly or environmentally to the refugee) is a person who is outside the territory of that person’s own country (or place of residence habitual if stateless) due to fear of persecution on protected land. Protected grounds include race, caste, nationality, religion, political opinions, and membership and / or participation in any particular social group or social activities.
